I See Flowers, You See Cars -
SONIC BIDS PRESS KIT
With a favourable comparison to Scottish performer and songwriter KT Tunstall,
reviewer S. Halford writes "the distinctive vocal stylings and songwriting dexterity
of Australian Jo Kelly Stephenson set her apart .... I See Flowers
heralds the arrival of someone with the potential to blaze a trail far beyond home
territory.."
July/August edition of Performing
Songwriter Magazine, DIY Top 12 Pick,
Her brand of bluesy country deserves
comparisons to Shawn Colvin. The songs are strong and her voice sounds wonderfully
fresh.
Jeff Jenkins Review MAG 'Music Australia Guide' (April 08)
I See Flowers, You See Cars is optimistic and encouraging. It feels like an invigorating,
fresh breeze...Faster Louder (Feb 08)
Jo Kelly Stephenson has proven to be quite the accomplished live
performer. Her roots, folk and blues-inspired music translates just as well to CD
on her debut album... David Fannon, Rave Magazine
Triple J, Triple R, ABC Radio, PBS 106.7FM, The Edge Radio
(TAS) and many more are playing tracks on Australian radio. With airplay on
more than 75 College, AAA and Americana radio stations across the US
If you're a fan of bluesy, jazzy country, you'll probably really dig this
album. Stephenson has one of those voices that make you think of a
dive bar in Louisiana, filled with smoke and booze and musicians
wearing shades in the dark. Laina Murray, dbMagazine, Oct, 2008
There are a lot of achievements in this young performer's resume already,
inlcuding a swag of prime songwriting awards from Australia, New Zealand and the
US. Her music is definitely 'Fringe' or 'Alternative Country'; rootsy and bluesy
to the max.... for a bluesy edge [I See Flowers, You See Cars] is a
quality piece of work. Deborah Minter, Country Music Capital News, Oct 2008
Every now and then you come across an album and it just ..... rocks your world a
little bit and for me Jo Kelly Stephenson's debut album,
I See Flowers, You See Cars definitely falls into that category.
This album has many different influences.... at times it's pop... at times it's
rock.... at times it's country....soul.....blues.
It's sultry, it's old, it's new,
it's eclectic.....In a time when
a lot of albums do have a sort of sameness from
track to track, this album is a refreshing change, which embraces the listener and
rewards all the way through to the very end.
