ASA - Australian Songwriter Awards 2008

Knock, Knock, Knockin' on every door

With catchy lyrics and plenty of feel, it's all about the songs. Jo Kelly Stephenson now has an extensive catalogue of award winning songs available for licensing. The songs are striking chords with industry professionals, music supervisors and listeners alike. I'll Be True To You, after winning 2nd place in the 16th Billboard Song Contest for R&B Blues, is one of those songs.

Taxi Road Rally 2009 - LA

As a highlight end to a great US trip, Jo Kelly Stephenson attended the inspiring Taxi convention. She met publishers and other music industry professionals. Taxi leads as an Independant Artist and Repertoire Company and were responsible for forwarding one of Jo Kelly's latest songs to Crucial Music in LA. Creating songs that resonate with people and complement the storyline of film and TV shows, is an important element of Jo Kelly's songwriting. That is why her songs have consistently been favourably judged by industry professionals. Thanks to Taxi's hardworking A&R staff!

CMJ and the Jay Bar, New York

Jo Kelly Stephenson's bluesy songs met an enthusiastic response from the Jay Bar crowd on a Saturday night in New York. Jo Kelly and James "Jimi" Ferguson were back for a second appearance the following Wednesday night during 2009's CMJ Music Marathon and Film Festival.

Off to the USA

Jo Kelly Stephenson and James "Jimi" Ferguson took time out of Australia with an inspiring musical journey across America. Together they soaked up the good vibes at CMJ Music Marathon and Film Festival in New York, then travelled on to Nashville and Memphis, and later headed back over to LA for the Taxi Road Rally 2009. The Taxi Road Rally brings together music publishers, music supervisors and industry A&R people from major and indie labels.

Sold-out concert in Queensland

Jo Kelly Stephenson escaped the Melbourne winter again performing to a full house in Brisbane, at Emergence. Emergence showcased new and vibrant songwriters playing their roots and alt-country music. Recipients of a newly initiated funding grant for indigenous artists, Australian duo Busby Marou invited Jo Kelly Stephenson to perform with them after sharing the bill at the C2C Festival in Queensland. Jo Kelly appeared as a duo with keyboard player James "Jimi" Ferguson. The event was held at the Judith Wright Centre of the Contemporary Arts.

On the Road

Jo Kelly Stephenson performed at the C2C Festival in Queensland this month doing some solo acoustic numbers as well as singing with James "Jimi" Ferguson on keyboard. Jimi also performed with Andrew Ferguson and the Influence. C2C was a 3 day festival and expo - music, discussion, forums for positive change.

In the Studio

Jo Kelly Stephenson has been back in the studio laying down more tracks. Plenty of new songs have been written. "I love her voice, love her approach to songwriting and lyrics" says Eloise Nolan, Head of ABC Music Publishing.

With the cheeky humour of songs like I'll Be True to You and of course you're mama and papa, sisters and brothers, aunties, uncles, cousins, grandparents .... this song, already a 2nd place winner, Billboard World Song Contest, tells it all. Bluesy songs like Hey There Mama also subtly suggest a similar raw honesty.

Australian Blues and Roots - Airplay in Europe

Deep End, described by Performing Songwriter Magazine as the 'rock solid opener' of Jo Kelly Stephenson's debut album is now receiving airplay in France, Spain and other parts of Europe. It features on the Aussie Blues and Roots compilation CD BAR Vol 6

The BAR release has also broadened US airplay, adding to the 75 college, community and Americana stations currently playing tracks.

ABC Music Publishing signs Jo Kelly Stephenson.

Songs on I See Flowers, You See Cars will be administered by ABC Music Publishing. Eloise Nolan, Head of ABC Music Publishing, was interested in hearing the songs on the album after the title captured her imagination when she read a review. With a string of awards already under her belt for her songwriting, Jo Kelly Stephenson is looking forward to working with ABC who represent popular songwriters like The Audreys, Sara Storer, the Wilson Pickers and others.
